LARGE INTERNATIONAL INSURANCE COMPANY

LENGTH OF TIME IN PROGRAM: 7 Years

NATURE OF ASSIGNMENT: Analyzed emerging legal invoices (fee and expense entries) from law firms to determine if they were billed in accordance with client guidelines, accepted industry practices or benchmarks; were being performed at the appropriate staff level; and were reasonable in relation to the type of work being performed.  In addition, LCC attorneys determined, analyzed and reported any anomalies, irregularities, and other observations as appropriate. LCC prepared final invoice payment recommendation reports directed to the payers via e mailboxes.  Also,LCC participated in discussions with the client regarding those findings and recommendations.  As a result, the law firms agreed to substantial reductions from its billings.

OUTCOMES: 5.6% reduction since program inception.  Total legal fees = $61.5 Million.

CHALLENGES:  This client does not want its staff making final payment recommendations.  LCC is the final approver for this client.

In the initial year of program savings were less then optimal.  Based on LCC identification of numerous fee shifting issues, and LCC recommended changes in guidelines and enforcement, savings increased significantly.
